Story from Jam Press (Victorian Time Capsule)Pictured: The 100-year-old haul hidden beneath Ema's floorboards.Couple find 100-year-old TIME CAPSULE under Victorian home floorboardsA couple renovating their Victorian home were stunned to discover a 100-year-old haul hidden beneath the floorboards.Ema Mestrovic couldn't believe her eyes when she uncovered a collection of items dating back to 1921.The 35 year old made the discovery while renovating the home she bought with her partner. The couple were trying to reach some pipework when lifting a floorboard revealed the historic stash.Among the items were fabric samples, sewing supplies, old adverts, a snuff tin and a pattern ticket."You never really know what you're going to find when you start lifting floorboards and opening things up," Ema, from Kent, told NeedToKnow."We weren't specifically looking for anything, it was one of those completely unexpected discoveries that you come across when you start opening up an old house."It was such a surreal moment."We knew buying a Victorian house meant there would be plenty of history, but actually finding something that had been left there over 100 years ago was completely unexpected."Ema and her partner bought the property in October 2025 with plans to transform it into their dream home. But the fascinating discovery temporarily brought renovations to a halt as the couple tried to work out who the items had belonged to.Ema, a digital product designer, said: "There are actually some clues that suggest the items were connected to a local business that worked at our house."One of the items appears to have the address of the property on it, which makes me think it may have belonged to a tradesperson who worked here at the time."I immediately started wondering who had used them, why they were left there and what the house was like when these items were originally being used."It makes you look at the house slightly differently, knowing that someone was standing in the same rooms over 100 years ago."Rather than hiding the pieces away again, Ema now plans to put them on display in the renovated home. She added: "I'm definitely going to frame the pieces since it's a pretty special piece of house history."One of the things I love about renovating an old house is discovering these little pieces of its history."This was definitely one of the most unexpected discoveries we've made so far."ENDSEDITOR'S NOTE: Exclusive Licence: An exclusive licence has been obtained directly from the verified copyright holder.
